Art at MSJHS

Art 1 curriculum is based on a topic relevant to current events and explores a variety of media and methods through the use of the elements of art. Students learn a variety of skills in rendering objects, perspective, and figurative methods using media such as pencil pen, watercolor, acrylic paint, chalk, oil pastel, printmaking, and more to express their ideas visually.

Art 2 & 3 is a stepping stone for students seeking to hone their artistic skills in preparation for an AP portfolio. In this course, students learn more advanced rendering techniques and share their knowledge with each other.

AP Art is a self-guided inquiry-based course. Students are required to create 15-20 artworks to create an entire portfolio based on a specific topic with personal meaning. The College Board juries the portfolio and students earn a score of 1-6, 6 being the highest.
